Jazz Music has always played a pivotal role in telling South African Stories through music and has been in the centre of our culture in times of sorrow, hardships, happiness and celebrations.
The formation of Jazz At The Drakensberg NPC aims to bring jazz music minds to our region which will result to be a commentary tool for rural development artists to tell their stories through song and music.
Jazz Music encourages and celebrates, originality, personality, and meaningful expressiveness that does not stop evolving even if played in more traditional styles.
We are pleased to introduce this project that aims to foster the inclusion, integration and promotion of rural development jazz artists to mainstream jazz culture and music. This will be done through talent discovery, development and display in our national platforms such as Jazz At The Berg Festival and Drakensberg Jazz Ensemble.

JAZZ AT THE BERG is a National Lifestyle Jazz festival aimed at positioning the Drakensberg as the value for money, alternative and ultimately preferred holidaying destination for local national and international markets offering them fun-filled and memorable Drakensberg weekend gate-away experience. This is done through offering them high end hospitality packages suitable for their entertainment and leisure needs in so doing sustaining , promoting and economically benefiting local tourism products.

DRAKENSBURG JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Drakensberg Jazz Ensemble is formed to be a world class ensemble made up of development artists selected from uThukela District Municipality and its three local municipalities of uKhahlamba, Inkosi Langalibalele and Alfred Duma. The overall composition of the ensemble will be gender balanced with special preference to the youth and persons with disabilities.
The Drakensberg Jazz ensemble is a practical platform to foster the inclusion, integration and promotions of rural development artists into the mainstream jazz music culture by providing sustainable efforts for them to be nurtured and be provided with proven platforms to showcase their talents. The ultimate aim is to Develop a full Orchestra / Ensemble band that will be empowered to perform before national audiences such as “Jazz at the Berg” and other national and international platforms.
